Earlier this month our favorite hat-wearing CEO bid farewell to the team and got on a plane to Michigan, where he is attending his orientation for the prestigious Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship where he will be studying for a Masters of Fine Arts in Film/Cinema.
It was a first in Malawi, to watch creatives interact with the corporate sector especially in a space where the creatives are usually shunned. In a magnificent feat where golfers from as far as South Africa jetted into the country to be part of the first ever golf tournament held for the specific reason of empowering the creative industry. The inaugural Lush Africa Golf tournament, organized by Lush Africa, a non-profit organization focused on supporting young people and women in the creative arts. The event held on 1st July 2023 at Limbe Country Club in Blantyre, was aimed at raising funds to benefit young African creatives in the Fashion & Beauty Industries.
As a leading platinum sponsor, HD Plus creations was responsible for curating the event as well as assisting the Lush Africa Team with media relations and promotion of the event. During the event, HD Plus Creations was represented by David Nyirenda, Mike Juma, Imran Daudi & Anthony Makawa who eventually came first in the tournament. Speaking on Zodiak Television’s Sunrise program, Helen Ngwira the Senior Marketing Officer for HD Plus stated that “HD Plus Creations as a growing creative agency saw an opportunity to be involved in an initiative that encourages the corporate sector to take the creative industry more seriously and see it as a valuable partner in achieving their business goals.”
The event ended in a colorful award ceremony as well as a raffle draw where one lucky golfer also walked away with a photo-shoot voucher worth MK50,000 sponsored by StudioPlus, HD Plus Creations’ studio photography company. Check out below for a gallery of photos of the event.

Freshly returned from a Mandela Washington Fellowship 2023 Alumni Symposium that took place in Boksburg South Africa, Mr. Hastings Golosi, creative director for HD Plus Creations describes the experience as one of the best in his life as a Young African leader and entrepreneur in the creative industry.
During a welcoming summit where he had an audience with the HD plus creations team, he couldn’t help but feel grateful for the wonderful opportunity to network with potential partners from across the region and gain new insights that would aid him in his endeavor as well as the company’s future progress.
Mr. Golosi was proud to share and inspire our team through explaining his journey to become a Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) Fellow and could now be called a ‘Leadership Coach.’ Through the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders program, he received intensive training in business leadership and entrepreneurship at Rutgers University in New Jersey and the University of Washington in the United States.
Throughout the program, he learned the importance of networking, developing strong leadership skills, and using innovative approaches to solve complex challenges. He was also being exposed to cutting-edge technologies and new ways of thinking that would undoubtedly aid him in his future projects and on his role as a creative director at our organization.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders is the flagship program of the U.S. Government’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and has brought nearly 5,800 young leaders from every country in Sub-Saharan Africa to the United States for Academic and leadership training. The 2023 Alumni Symposium provided the opportunity for the invitees to deepen their networks across the continent and globally.

As a way to motivate our staff, we held the first ever employee award ceremony on the 31st January 2023 at The Bay Restaurant, a continental cuisine restaurant in Lilongwe. The event saw several employees recognized and awarded for their hard work that contributed to the company’s success for the year 2022.
The colorful event hosted by one of our newest additions to the projects department, Alinafe Phiri, had nine employees from the company receive awards for different categories. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, CEO & Technical Director for HD Plus Creations, Gift “Sukez” Sukali said, “The company decided to organize the dinner gala and awards as a way of appreciating our employees and their contributions to our successes over the past year.”
Also commenting on the same, HD Plus Creations Board Chairperson, Stevie Sukali encouraged all employees to embrace hardworking spirit if they are to be recognized by their company.
The top awarded employee came out as Sam Kabambe, our projects manager who managed to snag the much coveted Employee of the Year award as well as the early bird award. In his remarks, Kabambe expressed his gratefulness for the awards and his satisfaction in knowing that his hard work is recognized. After awarding their top employees the event pivoted to celebrate the CEO’s 30th birthday which saw an attendance of some special guests and a few celebrities. After the airing of The Apongozi TV episode 1 and 2 the series which stars the late Maria Chidzanja Nkhoma the Television series continues to be the talk of the town.
The series has so far cemented good entertainment as it depicts, what the director calls “modern day chikamwini”. This culture is mostly common in Chewa and hlomwe tribes where husbands move to stay with the wife’s family.
After two episodes, viewers have taken to social media to express themselves on the storyline of the series.
“No one can Compare to your creativity” says @Anastaxia1960 on Twittter.
@oooMyBadItsElu said she just started watching the series as it has brought Maria Chidzanja Nkhoma memories.
Some people have also complimented the series for the quality of the product in terms of the cinematography.
“This will put Malawi on the map. I am so happy that Malawians are able to shoot high quality films. Malawi’s got talent” said Kondwani Kachamba Ngwira on Facebook.
Kamzati II posted on his Facebook page saying the picture quality of the series and the sound is on point. Framing of the pictures and the scenes everything is good.
The posts clearly show that viewers are following the series keenly and look forward to watching the remaining episodes. Apongozi continues to be aired on Zodiak television and its Facebook page every Sunday at 8:00PM with a repeat on Monday at 11:00 AM.
The long-awaited television series watch party took place at Golden Peacock Hotel where the first two episodes were screened 8th December 2022, it was a night set with a glamorous red-carpet watch party, for invited patrons that witnessed the birth of Apongozi TV series. The patrons of the event watched with a lot of admiration as they seemingly enjoyed the first two episodes, leaving them in suspense. The guests gave the cast and crew a stand ovation as they sang praises to them for the great work, which compelled them to look forward to watching the remaining episodes of the series in the comfort of their homes.
In interview after the premiere the director, Hastings Golosi said the series is a dedication to the late Maria Chidzanja Nkhoma who was the lead actress in season one and died of Covid-19 at the age of 70.
He further revealed that the series is an early Christmas present that had come earlier in every Malawian household from HD Plus Creations. “Our vision is to become a household name and give Malawians a reason to switch to Zodiak television every Sunday at 8 PM”, said Golosi.
He further thanked the general public for the support rendered during the watch party and deemed it a success as they got to respect the cast and crew as well as celebrate their achievement.
Later there was an auction of the Apongozi TV series posters at the premier, with close to one million kwacha raised by the bidders who contributed various amounts of money.
In honor of the late legend, HD Plus Creations prepared a documentary as well as a theme song titled ‘Mayi Maria’ which was performed by Rudo Chakwera, Dr. Joram Nyiringo and Dan Kalima.
Apongozi is a relatable Malawian story about modern day chikamwini culture where husbands move to stay with the wife’s family.
The series will be aired at 8 o’clock every Sunday on Zodiak television.
A press release from HD plus creations limited states that the long awaited television series titled ‘APONGOZI’ is ready to be premiered on Zodiak television.
The statement was made on the 2nd of November 2022 after a successful partnership between HD plus creations and Zodiak television.
The series which has been in production since 2020 is an upcoming Malawian dramatic comedy sponsored by Growth Accelerator intended for people of all ages.
The series is about family rivalry in a quest to gain power and wealth where the story revolves around how Wakondiye Kawaza popularly known as‘ apongozi’, her five daughters, a son and sons in law play against each other.
It is in three languages namely Chichewa, English, Shona and casts some major public figures like veteran musician and artist late Maria Chidzanja Nkhoma who plays the role of apongozi.
According to the marketing manager for HD plus creations, Alex Kachepa, the series is expected to start airing within the first week of December.
HD plus therefore is calling on companies and small medium Enterprises to help them by advertising their business in this new show as a way of supporting the local creative sector and gaining access to a wider diverse audience to promote their products and services
